Department of Environmental Sciences participated in “Sanitation Festival” organized by WatSan Cell, Government of KPK

Department of Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) participated in “Sanitation Festival” organized on the eve of World Toilet Day on the 19^th of November, 2016 at the University of Peshawar. Dr. Farhan and Dr. Shams represented AWKUM along with the graduate students. Local Government and Rural Development Department of KPK under its outreach services (WatSan Cell) arranged this festival along with sector partners including UNICEF, IRC, WSSP, RSPs, etc. The day long activities include project presentation, NGO stalls of innovative WASH project, demonstration and poster presentation. Dr. Shams Ali Baig presented the outcomes of his research findings during the poster presentation session. Dr. Noor Muhammad, Dean of UET Peshawar was the chief guest at the opening session and Mr. Shoukat Yousufzai, Minister KPK Government was the chief guest at the closing session. The Minister highly appreciated the efforts of making academia-development sector linkages in delivering research based services to community. He further emphasized that the development sector across the Province should invite academic institutions in such event, which helps the students to know the real field based issues and thoroughly investigate to cater the problem while conducting researches.   

Prof. Dr. Ikramullah Khan Joined AWKUM as Professor (BPS-21) and Chairman Department of Botany

Professor Dr. Ikramullah Khan took over the charge as Professor (BPS-21) of Botany and Chairman Department of Botany on 17.11.2016. Dr. Ikramullah Khan is a well-known botanist. He has completed his M.Sc. and M. Phil. (Botany) from the Department of Botany, University of Peshawar, Pakistan. Then in 2008, he was selected for the University of Queensland Research Scholarship for his PhD studies. He completed his PhD from the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He has also done his Post-Doctorate from the UAE University Al Ain, UAE. His Post-Doctoral studies were fully sponsored by the UAE University Al Ain. Before joining this university, he was working in the University of Agriculture Peshawar. He is among the pioneers and founders of Weed Science discipline in the University of Agriculture, Peshawar. Dr. Ikramullah Khan is well known scientist and attended different scientific conferences around the world such as in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Sri Lanka, UAE and Pakistan etc. and presented his research findings and won different awards. He is a member different national and international scientific societies and has developed linkages with different national and international universities and research organizations.

Dr. Khan appreciated the leadership of the Abdul Wali Khan University and particularly the honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali (T.I) for his dynamic leadership, excellent selection of the faculty and particularly in the Department of Botany from all over Pakistan. Dr. Khan called Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali as a visionary leader and appreciated his excellent efforts for Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. Dr Ikramullah Khan is very much happy to join the team of Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali and his team and he is expecting to bring few mega projects, develop linkages with national and international research organizations, organize national and international conferences, workshops and seminars, improve the quality of research, attract funding agencies for his research and to take Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan into peaks.

Mr. Ateeq Ur Rehman, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, Published Two Journal Papers and a Conference Paper

Mr. Ateeq Ur Rehman, AWKUM scholar at University of Southampton, UK and  Lecturer, Department of Computer science, published two journal papers and a conference paper.

Mr Ateeq Ur Rehman published  research articles under the  title of "Performance of Cognitive Selective-Repeat Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request"  and "Performance of Cognitive Stop-and-Wait Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request in the Face of Imperfect Sensing" in IEEE access journal with impact factor of 1.249.

The the title of the conference paper is "Performance of Cognitive Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest: Go-Back-N" published in IEEE vehicular technology conference May 2016.

Open Public PhD Defense of Dr. Abdul Mateen PhD Scholar of the Department of Islamic Studies

An Open Public PhD Defense of Dr. Abdul Mateen(Wing Commander PAF/Director Motivation Pakistan Air force) PhD Scholar of the Department of Islamic Studies was Conducted on Nov 18,2016  in the Central Library, Garden Campus. Dr.Hafiz Salihuddin, Chairperson Department of Islamic Studies, AWKUM chaired the Session

The session started with the Recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr.Abzahir Khan(PhD, Coordinator).

After the Recitation of the Holy Quran, Dr.Abzahir khan briefed the house regarding proceedings of the event, thereafter; the scholar presented the abstract of his Thesis.

The External Examiner and the Participants asked questions to which the scholar responded positively. Consequent upon the Decision of The supervisory committee, the scholar Dr.Abdul Mateen was found eligible for the Award of PhD Degree in the Field of Islamic Studies.

Prof.Dr.Niaz Muhammad , Dean F/O Arts and Humanities, thanked the External Examiner and all the participants of the session.

Dr.Hafiz Salihuddin, Chairperson Department of Islamic Studies also thanked the Participants with special reference to the External Examiner.
