To observe World
Water Day, AWKUM GREENS Student Society, Department of
Environmental Sciences, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, organized poster
competition and a walk around the campus on 22nd March
2018.
World
Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about
water related issues raise awareness about the protection of this precious
thing and inspire others to take action to make a difference. Water is the most
basic need of life; without water there is no life. But now, more than ever,
human activities are posing a threat to our water supplies through pollution,
over extraction, deforestation, new construction and all the activities that
fall in the category of development.
The
first part of the program consisted of a poster competition. Students had
prepared posters which were evaluated by faculty members of other departments
and the top three posters were selected for prize/certificates. After this,
students of the department went outside and created environmental slogans in
the lawn using their own bodies as markers and grass as canvas. Students and
faculty of the department then took a walk around the campus to raise awareness
about water conservancy. Students were holding banners with messages to raise awareness
about the protecting this precious commodity. One of the ideas behind having a
special day is to make people think twice about how much water they waste.
